Prayer standings in the memory of the flooded territories take place in the village of Breitovo every year.
In 1930-40th during the constructing of the Rybinsk Reservoir over 700 villages, more than 100 churches, and 4 closters have been flooded. 130,000 people lost their homes for the sake of electrification of Moscow region. Most of them were moved to Rybinsk.
Unfortunately ever fewer people come to the night prayer. The Rybinsk Reservoir (often refered to as the Sea) has become an essential part of the landscape, only very few people who used to live in the flooded towns and villages still live.
Now it is widely excepted, that the Reservoir will not be drained. The mold has been washed off and there are enough churches on land that are often abandoned and no one seems to care.
Still, in Breitovo a new church of John the Baptizer is being built as a replacement for the one flooded 70 years ago.
